- What Participants are Saying
Going on a mission trip is a life-changing event. Below are a few testimonials from team members who have gone on STCHM-sponsored mission trips:
“I’m so thrilled that God led both my husband and me to this mission trip at this time so we could share the experience together. It was amazing! I realized on the trip that a lot of the things we spend our time and energy on in the U.S. are petty and unimportant, and they distract us from serving God and others. In the Dominican Republic, I was able to focus much more on truly important things.” Lauren (went with husband, Michael, a physician)
“My life was so impacted by the Dominican people. Even with all the trials they face, they don’t stop smiling, loving, or worshipping God.” Clint
“My trip to the Dominican Republic this summer was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Helping with the medical clinics was one of the highlights. I translated for one of two doctors that came with us from Texas. I was nervous because I do not have a medical background, but I found out that God can use anyone anywhere!” Tina
“I had been told of the love the Dominican Christians have for each other and of their faith in Christ. They have a depth in their relationships that we need in America. It has been a tremendous blessing to experience this for myself.” James
"It amazed me that people with so little are thankful and happy about so much. I want to strive to be that way.” Paige
“God’s love has no strings attached and He loves everyone. I never truly understood that until I came to the Dominican Republic on this mission trip.” Stephanie
“A part of my heart remains back in the Dominican Republic. I think of the people daily. To think we are from different parts of the world, looking at the same moon and stars, worshipping the same one true God. We are all people in need, needing Christ’s love. We needed to show it – and they needed to feel it.” Tanya (who went with 12-year-old daughter Abi)
“My six-year-old son kept telling me, ‘Dad, we need to go build some blue benches.’ A few months later, South Texas Children’s Home Ministries showed a presentation at my church that showed mission teams building blue benches for chapels in the Dominican Republic. God just hit me in the head with a 2 x 4 as I realized this was what my son had been talking about. Building the chapel in the Dominican Republic was right up my alley. Having the chance to take my son on a trip to see a different culture and serve alongside with me was a wonderful opportunity. Thank you so much!” Kelly (served with his young son, Jacob)
“I want to be a pediatric nurse, and this mission trip has given me an even greater passion for helping hurting children.” Nikki
“To perform dentistry in the House of God as we did … it was overwhelming! We helped almost 300 children, and it was emotional and tiring. There were tears, smiles, hugs, prayers, fear, consoling, and joy. The actual impact on my life is still revealing itself to me. I hope to do it again and try to recruit other dentists so we can reach more people.” Dr. Bill
“It was such an honor to serve the people of the DR. My heart was broken many times as I screened the children and saw many rotten and broken-off teeth. I would have stayed another week, though, and I would go back tomorrow.” Liane
“It seems the Dominican Republic is etched into my memory – the children’s laughter and singing; a friend holding a baby in her arms at the orphanage until she fell asleep; eating a mango right off of the tree! One of my favorite moments was seeing my daughter, Grace, talking through our interpreter to a young Dominican girl named Gwendolyn about their lives. The trip has made me more aware of the needs in my community, and even more aware of my next door neighbor’s needs.” Lisa (went with daughter Grace)
“I learned on this mission trip that God will always provide. He can take the bad times and make them joyous.” Marissa
“I was so touched by how the Dominicans give so much when they have so little.” Lindsey
“God showed me on this trip what He wants for my life – to be a missionary in a Spanish speaking country, possibly in the DR. It was so hard to leave.” Amber
I heard the voice of the Lord, saying,
Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8 |
